Okay, I hate this tropical storm! Brian went back to work today and it rained ALL day. The rain was horizontal and diagonal and constant! It pretty much was a steady rain here for about 24 hours.
I went into the nursery about noon time to change Danny's diaper... no problems. Brian called me about 3:30 to let me know he was on his way home... happy days! I went into the nursery right after that to change another diaper and.... squish squish squish! Thank goodness Brian was on his way home!
There was water leaking into the nursery from wall to wall along the outside of the house and there was a little bit of a leak in the corner of the closet in the office. So we had to move almost all of the baby's stuff out of the nursery, pull up the carpet and pad, and start combatting Mother Nature. We were using the shop vac to suck up the water and using towels to suck up any new water. Thankfully, we had enough towels and a shop vac!
We're not sure if there's a leak in the roof, in the wall or at the floor level. We've started a claim with our insurance company (thankfully, not State Farm!) and we'll see what happens. I'm really upset that it's the baby's room that was damaged because he was just starting to get used to sleeping in his crib! I'm also worried that mold could grow in the room and that's really dangerous for a little one! But hopefully, everything will work out okay.
Today we had a party for Danny - a BB BBQ the sequel! We cooked hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill for our guests. We had a great crowd of friends - 13 adults and 7 kids. Everyone thought that Danny was so cute! (Well, he is!)
I think my favorite part of the party was watching Tim playing with all the "older" kids (the ones that could walk) with the puppet and jumping up and down in the kitchen. We told Jen that she should hire him out for kids parties and call the business Tiny Tim's.
It was cool hanging out with other parents and getting some good tips on different things. It's useful being able to talk to other parents with questions, especially since I really don't know what I'm doing. Thanks Moms and Dads!
We went to Spring Hill this weekend to visit Brian's grandmother. Last week was her birthday but she went down to the Keys with Cliff and Laurie and their family. I think it's great that for her 85th birthday, she headed down to the Keys. I've never been to the Keys before, so I'm a little jealous.
We took her out to dinner at Papa Joe's. This time in a restaurant was MUCH better than the last time. Danny pretty much slept through the whole meal. The waitress taught us a neat trick for the next time we go to a restaurant. If you turn the booster seat thing upside down, the car seat fits on it perfectly!
We hung out for the night and let JoAnn play with Danny as much as she liked. We brought her some photos of him too! We've been kind of bad with handing out photos. Shame on us. Danny was pretty good in the car going there and back. We didn't even have to stop to change diapers or anything
Today we took Danny to the doctor. He did pretty well even though he had to get a shot. Next time, he has to get 4 shots and I'm not really looking forward to that! He's not old enough that we can really do anything to make him feel better while getting a shot.
That afternoon, I finally got my hair cut. I went to a local place I hadn't been before, but discovered while doing some marketing for the studio. I liked the place, so I decided to go there. I've put a photo on the home page of the web site of my new do. I'm not 100% sure that I like it though. I think it's a little longer than I would've liked. She put long layers and long bangs in my hair as well. I might go back and get more taken off. I might want to get short bangs and shorter hair, but I haven't decided yet.
Today, I took Danny to Brian's work to show him off to his co-workers. We stopped at Babies R Us first. I had to smile when I heard another kid howling in the store, looked at Danny and smiled that it wasn't my kid making such a huge fuss! He's such a good boy!
I went to his new office and his boss gave Danny a bottle. No sooner did we say that he's pretty good about not spitting up and that he might've only spit up a bottle's worth of formula, did Mt. Danny-suvius erupt, all over his outfit and the straps in his car seat. Sarcasm baby strikes again!
We changed his outfit and went over to the purchasing department and to his old office. Brian had lots of fun showing off Danny. It's still weird accepting a compliment that our son is so cute when all I really did was hatch him. I didn't really have much to do with it!
After that, we headed over to Jackie Robinson Stadium for the Daytona Cubs game. Every year, Brian's department has a get together at a Cubs game. This year, they were playing against the Vero Beach Rays (or the Tampa Bay Rays minor league team). I wasn't sure who to cheer for because I grew up in Tampa, but we grew up watching the Cubs.
We ended up leaving at the end of the 4th because it was getting a little late with the baby. The game started more than a half hour late, so we didn't feel as guilty about leaving early. From what we hear, the Cubs did win. We made sure that we got a photo with Cubby the mascot for Danny's first baseball game. Danny was really good at the game and everyone said how cute he was!
Since this was Brian's last Friday off this summer, I decided that we should do something. I arranged with Ricky and Teresa to take the baby for the afternoon and Brian and I went up to Ormond Beach to see the new Batman movie.
It was our first time leaving the baby with anybody and surprisingly, I was perfectly okay with it. It was nice to have a little time alone with Brian and I REALLY wanted to see the new Batman movie!
I must say that The Dark Knight was definitely dark! Heath Ledger's Joker makes Jack Nicholson look like the Disney version! There has never been as psycho of a villian in the Batman movies or TV shows. I think it's been a long time since I've cringed to see what would happen next (what the Joker would do, not what Two Face looked like). I like that they wrapped up the Harvey Dent/Two Face story line in the movie as well. It was definitely a movie to see in the theaters!
We went back to Ricky and Teresa's house to pick up Danny. He was really good for them. We hung out for a little while and then the skies started looking very stormy and lots of lightning, so we headed home. We're thankful that we have family close by that likes to look after him from time to time!
Today, I took Danny to his first restaurant. Brian wanted to show off the baby to the people he plays poker with. So I brought Danny up to a restaurant called Backyard BBQ (I think that's the name) in Sanford. The second we got there, Danny needed a new diaper, so Brian took him to his car to change the diaper. We basically had enough time to order and Danny was hungry for a bottle. He was kind of fussy in the restaurant and the food that I ordered also was terrible. Needless to say, I didn't have a good time.
We made some rookie mistakes. First, I didn't change his diaper before we left the house. Second, we went to a restaurant at his feeding time. Third, we sat in a booth. Fourth, I didn't like the restaurant.
He calmed down after a while of me bouncing him and walking him around the restaurant. We stayed until chip up and then left when Brian went back to play poker. Maybe our next restaurant experience with the baby will be better.
Today, Brian went back to work for the first time since before the baby was born. So I guess now I'm going to have to be the momma! Brian has been really good about caring for the baby so that I can get healthy again from my surgery. He's also done most of the late night and early morning feedings so that I could sleep. But now, it's my turn to take the night shift and day shift as well!
I had another doctor's appointment with my girlie doctor today. I think he's really proud of the work he did on my surgery because he said that my scar looks like my surgery was 6 weeks ago, not only 3 weeks ago. That means I'm healing up well. I've been having some pains inside, but he says that means I'm healing inside too!
After the doctor, I headed over to Ricky and Teresa's house so they could visit with the baby. We hung out for several hours and had pizza for dinner. Brian came over after work and hung out as well. Teresa gave Danny his bottle and even changed a couple of diapers. Ricky was really happy that there were no poopy diapers (his mortal enemy!).
